Layne and Paul

Layne & Paul

  • You can avoid getting stuck in the ‘power struggle’ or judgment stage
  • It will give you the clarity and confidence to make healthier choices in your relationships
  • You can stop suffering and get proactive to resolve persistent negative patterns and grow beyond them
  • It will show you specifically what skills you need to master to enjoy the kind of relationships you have always yearned for
  • It will help you stop blaming others for your disappointments in relationship
  • You will improve your capacity for conscious evolution and relational maturity

The illustration to the right is a graphic represent-ation of the five stages all relationships experience. The most important thing to know is there are between 10 and 20 specific skills in each stage. That might seem like a lot of skills. The good news is that you already have some of these skills.

However, it’s important to know what these skills are. It’s good to know which ones you have and which ones might need some improvement so you can see what you have to work with in creating successful, more fulfilling relationships.

The five stages of relationships are:

  1. Attraction – usually fun, exciting & it feels good
  2. Power Struggle – where most upsets occur, note the ‘bridge of trust’ to the right >>
  3. Cooperation – you have learned to get along & cooperate
  4. Synergy – periods of effortless relating & ease of sharing power
  5. Completion – all things that begin, end, which is usually very challenging

Important things to keep in mind:

  1. Different relationships spend different amounts of time in any given stage.
  2. You can be in different stages in different relationships, e.g., attraction in one, cooperation in another and power struggle in yet another.
  3. You can also get stuck at the same stage in all your relationships, e.g., power struggle, which could be considered your growing edge.
  4. It’s important to know what you need to learn to move forward. Of all the skills necessary, which ones will provide the most improvement for you?
  5. Even though you may be enjoying high levels of cooperation and ease while you’re dating, when you consider getting married you will likely need to trust one another at a deeper level. This conflict usually reveals itself as increased tension or more arguing in the relationship.

  6. You may have had an extraordinary friendship for many years, but now that you’re considering going into business or sharing an apartment, you need to trust one another in new ways. This can result in the relationship temporarily feeling strained while you learn to trust one another in these new areas.
  7. One of the most important questions you can ask when you’re looking at deepening the level of commitment in a realtionship is, “What do we both need in order to experience more trust in our relationship?”

No matter where you are in your relationships, Paul and Layne can take you to the next level and beyond. They are profound teachers of love and wisdom whose insightful distinctions reveal truly evolutionary ways of relating.
